Our House Hunters International Episode

How many of you watch House Hunters International?  How many of you tune in and are sucked into the "old world charm", "the original character", "the original floors", "the great lighting", "the spacious courtyard", "the something modern", "the beach front location", "the place with the view", the "I just want to have a tub".

I love that show. I always have.  For years I would live vicariously through all of the lucky individuals who travel the world, creating a new space for themselves in a foreign land.  I remember most of the episodes too. The one where the woman decided to make Barcelona her permanent home. The family that moved to Switzerland. The men who rehabbed that block long castle outside of Budapest. All of the Paris episodes. And even the family from New Orleans who bought the old abandoned farm house in France with no running water or electricity.

Thursday evening I become a member of this special group.  In February, my family filmed our own story with the HHI film crew. The experience was surely a bucket list crosser. The crew was amazing, my kids got to see how TV magic is made, and we were able to share our journey with the world.

I won't lie, I have not watched the show since we filmed it. I have been disenchanted since I discovered how reality TV is not so reality.  There are many aspects of our show that are simply not true. I am so afraid that we are going to appear fake. When you decided to do the show, they take snippets of your life and create a fantasy.  The part that sucks is that it's not all the way real but you are using your actual identity.

I thought about sharing the truth vs. reality in this post, but I decided not to.  I know I am not the only person who daydreams through the HHI filter, so I will not be the one to ruin it.

The truth of the matter is, my name is Candice. I am married to an amazing man who made my HHI dream come true. It was a wonderful experience and I don't regret doing it.  (As of now I don't. I will be seeing the episode for the first time along with all of you.)

Tune in Thursday, August 18th at 9:30 CST on HGTV.

If there is one good thing that came out of this, our audition video is now the example for how to make an audition video for the show. Yay!

Wait!

Okay, I will share two thing. First, my husband was in the Army, not the Navy. Second, when we purchased this place there was no kitchen. My husband spent hours in Ikea picking out a design he thought I would like and many more days installing everything himself. Yes, the electrical work as well as the plumbing.  I at least have to give him credit for that.  Thanks babe!

The rest is a mystery. TV magic!
